Management Fees (USD Mil) are one of the major costs for hospitality businesses.

Base management fees should be set so that they compensate managers for their cost of doing business, including overhead and base salaries. This is compensation for showing up to work and thus, should not be a source of profit for management companies as it generally is now. Usually, base management fees are approximately 1.0% to 2.0% of total revenue for most hotels, depending on size, or a duly considered flat fee.

Since it is a cost, a lower management fee is better. However, we also need to measure its effectiveness. It chiefly invests in upscale service hotels. All of the company's hotels operate under the Marriott or Hilton brands. Apple Hospitality has wholly owned taxable REIT subsidiaries, which lease all of the company's hotels from wholly owned qualified REIT subsidiaries. These hotels are managed under separate agreements with various hotel management companies that are unaffiliated with Apple Hospitality. The company derives its income from hotel revenue, its sole segment.
