We've aligned our business around 3 growth vectors: investments, personal and adviser. And we've reshaped our leadership team and financial reporting to align to that structure. A clear strategy has been outlined for each of these vectors, and we are already executing this strategy at pace.
Our financial results for 2020 mark an inflection point and mark the end of the post-merger era. There was real momentum, and it was shown in the second half of 2020. Obviously, 2020 was a difficult year, and the numbers that we report today reflect the challenges that we came through. Fee-based revenue was GBP 1.425 billion, largely reflecting the impact of the prior year outflows in 2019. During the year, we reduced adjusted operating expenses by a full 10% to GBP 1.206 billion through careful cost control and strategic initiatives to drive efficiencies. We remain on track to deliver our targeted synergies as part of the transformation program that we have shared with you before and identified more actions that we can take.
